Brandy Sears. Kitchen Island. February 11th , 2018.
The design of a kitchen island is completely up to the homeowner. Some of the islands come in a natural wood color. This allows the homeowner to keep the island counter in the natural wood finish or the counter can be stained. Before designing the countertop, the homeowner should decide what look he or she is trying to achieve in the kitchen. A new trendy is to install a island top that is a bright color that doesnt necessarily match the already present color scheme in the kitchen. This makes the kitchen seem more artsy and funky and can make the island really stand out in the room. A homeowner may also decide that he or she wants a traditional kitchen island countertop that matches the rest of the color scheme. He or she will then need to design the kitchen island counter with the same materials and staining as the rest of the cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen.
If you have a smaller kitchen space, that doesnt mean that you cant add island space to your kitchen. A portable kitchen island or food preparation cart can add usable surface area in a smaller space. You can store the cart out of the way most of the time, and then roll it out for use during meal preparation. The movable island can match your kitchen cabinets or it can have a completely different style, the choice is yours. Kitchen islands are a tricky item to successfully add to your kitchen design, but well worth considering when you are remodeling your kitchen. You may be surprised at the increase in convenience in meal preparation and added counter space an island will provide. But, it is hard to visualize the space required and the best size for any island addition, so be sure you get all the information you need to make the best decision for your kitchen.
Modern houses are designed to really suit the modern world that we have today. From living rooms, bed rooms, patios, bath rooms and even kitchens have a way of modernizing the styles and structures of the room. But have you ever heard of kitchen islands in your kitchen? Sounds weird, right? Kitchen islands have become very popular as a new part of the kitchen. It does not literally mean land surrounded by water as what we may think when we hear about an island. Actually, it is a striking and eye-catching part of your kitchen that can provide different functions in your kitchen. It can serve as storage for your things or a working table for your food preparation. There are a lot of usages for a kitchen island depending on your need or your preferences.
Once you determine that an island will enhance your kitchen design, you have several additional options to consider. You can create another work space by adding a second sink and dishwasher into your island. This will allow a second cook to work in the kitchen or allow you to prepare two separate dishes without contaminating one with the other. The added counter space provided by your kitchen island will allow you easier food preparation by minimizing clutter and stacks of bowls and utensils Adding an eating area to your kitchen island is a popular option, if you have the space. A raised counter, creating a two tiered island adds useful space to the kitchen while separating the eating surface from the food preparation surface of the island. This type of arrangement is great for families as the children can do homework on the raised surface, while other family members can be preparing a meal. The family can spend time together, yet keep their things separate from each other. The eating area added to an island can add useful space to the kitchen or help to define the kitchen space from other areas of the house.
Consider the Services If you need a power supply for appliances, you can run it up through a pipe or conduit up to the ceiling, or even better, run a line below the floorboards up into the kitchen island. Make sure your installation conforms to local and national regulations. You are advised to employ a qualified electrician to do this. Many islands are fitted with burners and sinks with a hot and cold water supply, but this is not essential if you already have a traditional sink and stove. There are many different designs of pot hooks or racks that can be used on or above your island. Many people fit hooks to the ceiling to hold cooking pans of different types, but that will depend on the height of your ceiling.
