Kitchen Island. Sunday , February 11th , 2018 - 12:33:12 PM
One of the largest pros to a kitchen island is having that space for friends or family members to congregate in the kitchen area. One can place bar stools, or high seated chairs up against a kitchen island which invites that comfort zone. Most of us are aware that people tend to congregate to the kitchen area, after all it is the heart of the home. There are some cons of having a kitchen island. The largest one is expense. Placing a permanent kitchen island with running water and electric as many of the islands have can be extremely expensive. If one is doing a kitchen remodel, adding the electric or gas line to an island during a remodel can cost a tremendous amount of extra money. Even without electric, gas, or water, the cost of a stationary island can run into several thousand dollars, which might be better used elsewhere.
5. Additional kitchen island ideas are to consider using shelf space on the sides of your kitchen island for cookbooks, collectibles or storage. A built-in TV works here, especially if it faces the family room. Or a microwave may work well for heating up after-school snacks and cooking foods quickly. 6. Countertop material for the island doesnt have to match the rest of your kitchen countertops as long as it is harmonious with the rooms overall design. You may want to splurge on solid surfacing here, for example, and use laminate on the other countertops. A butcher-block countertop is ideal for chopping, while granite or marble works well for baking purposes and for rolling pastry dough.
Kitchen islands are a design feature that can make your kitchen much more efficient. But, a word of caution: this is one design item where you should definitely consult with a design expert while you are designing your kitchen. Unless you have lots of experience in kitchen design, or interior decorating, it is hard to get a good feel for how an island will work. In order to make a kitchen island work, you need a fairly large kitchen space to ensure enough space around the island to move freely. If your space is large enough to accommodate an island, then a kitchen island will provide more counter space and more storage space. In an extremely large kitchen you can create two separate work triangles, or reduce the size of the main work triangle, increasing the efficiency of your design. To help you with the design element of incorporating an island an experienced designers input will be invaluable. The arrangement of the appliances and service supplies may change when you add an island into your design.
